I have been collecting depression glass for a few years, so while by no means an expert, I am also not a complete novice. I found three fairly large mistakes in this edition of the guide within my first week of using it to look up values while antiquing. I suppose it's possible those are the only errors in this book, but it seems unlikely, especially since even a cursory glance by a savvy editor through the pattern reference up front should have caught them.*I have the previous edition which did not suffer from such obvious problems--I never encountered a mistake and found it to be more accurate than several of my current (and much more expensive) hardcover reference books. I was very much looking forward to this edition and am very much disappointed. They should pull it and check it carefully before reprinting.*Giving it a second chance, I found even more problems today. Basically many of the pattern drawings are wrong both in the index up front and on some of the listings. In one case the diagram is opposite a photo of dishes which look obviously completely different, indicating that the fact checking on this books was poorly done. It's hard to trust the other info too with so many basic mistakes.
This book has lots of color photos in its pattern descriptions. The book starts out with a summary of the types of depression glass and shows the lacing patterns for each one plus a brief description. As you proceed, the book then goes into detail about each pattern and shows great color photos of each pattern. This is a definite read for someone new to collecting depression glass.
Really handy little guide if you’re into glassware. Way more thorough than I expected and small enough to go in your purse if you’re out rummaging through some antique stores/flea markets/auctions/goodwill stores. I know these days everyone has a smartphone and can look up just about anything, and I know prices fluctuate, but this makes it easier (for me anyway) to look up patterns and brands, which I can then use to look for a current price online.
I'm a buyer/seller of glassware. I find this book indispensible. It is the best little guide that goes in my purse every time I go out treasure hunting. Wonderful pattern guide in the front of the book to help you locate the pattern name. Excellent info on manufacturer, date, colors the pattern was made in, and what pieces have been reproduced. It actually has not only the Depression Era patterns, but some mid-century patterns also, such as Wexford, Windsor, Early American Prescut, Yorktown, Paneled Grape, Moonstone, Forest Green, Royal Ruby.

I chose this book because most of the reviews were favorable. I like the size. It's small enough for your purse yet provides a lot of information. Detail of the patterns is very clear. It's well worth the cost and I would highly recommend this guide to anyone who is interested in collecting depression glass.
Warman's field guides fit easily into my pocket, providing quick and easy access to value estimates. Antiques are becoming a bit of a hobby for me and I am learning that Warman's books are highly reliable references.
