The story grabs you on the first page and doesn't let go. Each time the situation seems to begin to resolve, another secret is revealed and the tension builds again. I love that Taylor Sissel's characters are so three dimensional that you feel you know them by the end of the story. Her skill with description puts you right in the room with the characters as the sisters try to find common ground or feeling the impact of the car hitting the tree. Another great read from Barbara Taylor Sissel. Enjoy it!

Will never read this author again. I can’t tolerate an author that spends more time pondering what will happen than writing what actually happens. When they open that door - who will be behind it? What will be their reactions when I arrive? What will they say? They could do this. They could do that. They could say this. They could say that. Geez, just open the door already and let’s find out. We don’t need to discuss for pages what MIGHT happen. Let’s just open the door and see what DOES happen. Very frustrating, boring, annoying, exasperating, and unsatisfying.

When I randomly chose to read this book from my collection in Kindle, I didn’t know that I was going to be faced again with a story revolving around the death of a loved one. I thought it’d be too much, as I just finished reading a similar-themed novel. I must be masochistic to still read on, even with that knowledge. The thing though with these death-themed stories, and with an author whose works I’ve read before, I know that there will be a silver lining, guaranteed.Jordan and Travis were cousins and best friends, and so were their mothers who were close as sisters could be. Everything shattered when the boys were involved in a car crash, but only one of them survived, and the one left was blamed. A sudden death in the family can make or break the ties that bind. Add to that another complication from outside the family, and the situation gets testier. The question that each of the ones involve face: do I make or do I break? In the throes of grief, this is not a question that one contemplates upon, and the consequences of actions can be dire and irreversible. Once again, spot-on writing from Barbara Taylor Sissel, simple writing rich in emotions; held me captive all throughout.

I am so thankful that I won this book from a Goodreads Giveaway. The book : Faultlines by Barbara Taylor Sissel is about drunk driving and it's consequences. I'm grateful to give my thumbs-up review for this novel. This story is a tragedy; however, something good will result because of it. I believe that's the way it should be. I'm not going to get into the story in my review, because, that would ruin it for you when you read it. Drunk driving is a subject that needs to be written and talked about a lot more than it is. Drunk driving destroys families and kills innocent persons. Please read this exquisitely well-written novel appropriate for YA readers, also. I would like to thank Barbara Taylor Sissel for writing this excellent novel about such a difficult subject.

It’s the phone call every parent dreads: in the middle of the night, Sandy Cline learns that her twenty-year-old son, Jordan, has been in a car accident. Her nephew, Travis, was also in the car, along with Travis’s girlfriend. All three are alive—but barely. The car was smashed against a tree along a remote and winding road, beautiful but deadly, in their rural Texas Hill Country town. In the wake of the car crash, the close-knit family is tested like never before. Jenna, Travis’s mother, blames Jordan—as well as her sister, Sandy—after reports surface that Jordan had been driving. As the young adults struggle to survive, tension between their parents escalates. But when trust is broken and a shocking family secret is exposed, it creates a perfect storm of harrowing consequences. Rumors in the small town spread like wildfire. When details of the accident are questioned, Sandy and Jenna wonder if their family has been destroyed beyond repair. My Thoughts: From the first moments, I immersed myself in the story of a family suffering one of the worst events that can happen to parents: a child in danger, possibly because of something reckless one of them did. Set in the Texas hill country, in a small town named Wyatt, we are offered a glimpse of the people, the setting, and how families cope in tragic moments.Sandy, mother to Jordan, is blindsided when her sister Jenna, Travis’s mother, reveals a long-hidden secret in front of the family. And in a hurtful way.It was easy to see that she acted out of pain, but the consequences would be long-standing, and the bitterness would last for the foreseeable future.Emmett, Sandy’s husband, reacts to the revelation by leaving Sandy in the lurch…and ultimately, creating another chasm in the family.Jordan makes another discovery that will lead him to an older woman named Libby Hennessey, whose husband Beck is somehow connected to him.Meanwhile, so many events seem to collide and come together, in an almost domino effect, that had me, as a reader, wondering how everything would unfold. Why is the small town detective, Officer Huckabee, seemingly targeting Jordan? Why is he obsessed with Jenna, Travis’s mother? Who is cutting up and killing animals and displaying them on Libby’s property? As the secrets, lies, and mistaken choices slowly come together, Faultlines reveals more of the darkness that lies within a small town and in a family, but also provides a glimpse of moments of healing. A five star read.

I had a hard time getting through the book, it moved at a snail's pace. The character development took too long and I was happy when the book ended. In fact I skimmed the last ten or so pages because I just needed it to be over.

Having a college age son, the subject caught my eye -- thought the beginning was good, but the started rabbling on and on and got off track with silly side stories. I think author needs a better editor! Almost gave up half way but continued. Surprisingly I loved the ending -- so many books these days just fizzle out at the end, but thought this one really tied everything together. Having a college age son, I could completely relate to the fear and tragedy of original story line -- glad the ending did not disappoint -- actually brought me to tears.
