About the Author
María Luisa Lobo Montalvo, daughter of Cuban sugar magnate Julio Lobo Olavarría, had a deep passion for her homeland which was reflected in all aspects of her life and continued throughout her years of exile. Among her many cultural activities were film production, writing, and lecturing. Lobo Montalvo died in 1998, at the age of sixty-three, shortly after completing the manuscript for Havana: History and Architecture of a Romantic City.

Nothing else comes close to capturing the memory of a city that was both magic and majestic and so full of charm and elegant architecture. The photographs are masterful, but what comes through most vividly is the fact that you are seeing it captured with respect and love through the eyes of a lady who always carried it in her heart. She has created a gift for generations of, not only Cubans, but travelers, architects, and historians. Thank you, Maria Luisa.
The photos are magnificent. It is a great picture-book, but the text answers the questions that the pictures lead to.

Great book and beautiful photos of la Habana, a great country before 1959.
I bought this as a gift, and they loved it. The photos and detailed descriptions are great. They were quite impressed
Beautiful pictures and writing. The author loves the city and shows it in this book. Makes one want to go there as soon as we "free" U.S. citizens are allowed to. I just hope the actual city lives up to the pictures..
