I bought this because my daughter’s all black cat plays with a white stray cat daily. We all talk abour how he likes to go outside to see his “giiiirlfriennndddd,“ so I thought this book would be perfect for Valentines Day! In the book they two cats are males showing affection. Not what I wanted to read to my 4 year old. Especially when she asked why one doesn’t say, “she.â€
It is a nice book on friendship and compromise. Basically, the two cats want to be friends but can’t see each other when they visit each other at their houses so they decide to play out in the world. I don’t know why people are saying this book is “gay†or political. It’s not. It’s just two friends in a platonic relationship who want to play. Also, it is very contrasty and good for early eyes :)
We got this book when our daughter was 2 weeks old, and she instantly LOVED looking at the high-contrast pictures. We would prop up the book next to her, and she would stare at it for a really long time in wonder. Beyond that, the book has a cute story and concept that adults don't mind reading. It's way more interesting than the typical baby book. Our daughter is 4 months old now, and this book is still one of her (and our) favorites! Highly recommended!
This book is adorable. My baby loves to look at it, and the story made me feel warm and fuzzy for such a simple prose book. The illustrations are engaging and the final spread is a nice surprise as it's in full color. Watching my baby's face light up at the color was so sweet.
Bought this for my daughter’s first Christmas (two months old at the time). She loves the bold, black-and-white illustrations and could stare at it for hours. Plus, we’re cat people, so it seemed like a fitting book! The story is cute and entertaining. My next step is to stand it up while open and incorporate it in her tummy time.
My kids really enjoy this book. A great addition to an early learning library. Also makes an excellent baby shower gift.
I purchased this book because it is primarily black and white and wanted something to read to my newborn that would catch her attention. We have read this to her and showed her the pictures every day since we received it. She loves it. We love that it is a board book and will last.
