This is an awesome book. I highly recommend you purchase this book if you intend to do the Daniel Fast. It has great insight and guidance, answering many questions and providing references. It has lots of good recipes, and a 21 day devotional to help you on your way. As the book says, sometimes you are starving and the only way to be fed is to fast. I had a great experience on my 21 day fast. I feel stronger and closer to God, and my body is healthier, too. I recommend cutting out any caffeine a few days before, since you won't be able to take any headache medicines for withdrawal or headaches. I dreaded giving up milk and meat, but I found it wasn't as difficult with God there. Definitely a must do experience. I will definitely be doing the fast again.

I did appreciate the foundation this book was written under. For me it was a bit "wordy" in that I needed the author to cut to the chase, however understand that for a person who does not know their faith or scripture her back story would serve an important role.I enjoyed the daily readings and guide in the fast and the helpful menu guide and recipes. I have changed the way I eat and look at food. This has helped me in my journey with God by leaning on God for strength in the simplest yet deeply important part of my life. We all need to look at what we put into our bodies and why. This is a great, great book for that insight. I will continue to eat in a much healthier way, I consider where my food comes from and how important it is to keep my "temple" holy.

More than we may readily admit to, our physical condition impacts our spiritual and emotional health. The Daniel Fast is a tool which leads the reader to a thoughtful and well-planned blend of body-to-spirit awareness designed with a spiritual purpose in mind. Scripture references highlight different spiritual disciplines that require adhering to and purposed endeavor. One of these, the discipline of fasting, is often mentioned. Depending on one's background, the person may have participated in fasting or they may not have. If not, this is a whole new opportunity to facilitate growth in the inner person through denying self of certain foods and drinks. Susan Gregory offers this book as a guide for a form of partial "fasting," a fast that allows the foods eaten by Daniel and the three Hebrew boys during their initial period of Babylonian captivity. For spiritual reasons, these young men refused to eat the King's food and drink. Instead, they drank water and ate pulse, any seed-bearing food (vegetables, fruits, and grains). They fared very well. As Gregory explains, a true "fast" is a relationship of denying food or drink for the purpose of a spiritual goal. The Daniel Fast incorporates devotionals, biblical background, a food list, and recipes. It is easy to read but serious in intent. My church ladies have participated in the Daniel Fast two times and are eager to do it again. They also purchased the workbook which works well as a compliment study. This is an excellent group activity. We saw much improvement in our physical health during the fast and also noticed a sharpness in our spiritual side as we completed the study. All the women on the fast felt more energy, clearer mind alertness, and felt a greater sense sense of well-being during The Daniel Fast. They are determined to continue eating healthier by choosing to prepare and eat health building foods as part of their daily diets. This is an exceptional opportunity to get a handle on the negative influences of processed foods and sugars on our bodies. It truly is an amazing month-long, revitalizing make-over. It works best when done with a partner or group. There was so much joy and excitement in the group. The ladies were excited about feeling better, losing a few pounds, and gaining spiritual insights, with much more buy-in by the participants than I have ever experienced before in leading women's studies. . .which is saying a lot.

This is the third time that I have gone through this book and completed the Daniel Fast. Every time is as if I've read it for the very first time, and each journey whilst on the Daniel Fast has brought new revelation of who God is and who I am in Him. God' word is laced throughout and that is (I believe) what gives this book life, breathing new truth each time. The bonus but not the focus is weight loss during the time of fasting. I recommend this book to anyone who is keen for a deeper encounter with the Father.

I am morw than half way through the Daniel Fast. My biggest problem is making time to read the devotions or Bible, which means I am not making time for God. The book has helped me think and talk more to God. They stress, this is not about the Fast, but about getting closer to God . The hardest part of the fast is my headaches, but I am staying away from sweets, coffee, liquor/wine, dairy, meats and process food. I am also using the Daniel Fast web site to help me along. I can see me reading this again, and again when I do the fast. Susan Gregory recommends 21 day fast, although it could be 10.

I have done this fast several times now, usually at the beginning of the year and then any time I am dealing with a particular problem. The first time I fasted the whole church did it at the beginning of the year. I had been searching for something and couldn't put my finger on what it was, but as I continued on the fast I found a new closeness with God that I had never felt before. The daily readings in the book as well as the emails that Susan sends you if you sign up for them are so poignant and on point, it's like God is speaking directly to your heart. So if you are searching for something or want to move your relationship with God to a deeper level, I would highly recommend this book. The weight loss and overall feeling of well being is a nice side effect! There are lots of diets out there, this is the whole package, get your heart right and the mind and the body will follow. Be blessed as Susan would say!
