The book is well edited; grammar and spelling do not get in the way. The action isn't so bad, but the characters are all flat. Mason is impulsive and reckless to the point where I was really hoping he'd get himself killed. The motivations of the goddess, the evil mage, and to some extent the king are not well explored.I've read several similar books and they were all better. https://www.amazon.com/Morrigans-Bidding-Binding-Words-Book-ebook/dp/B07GGWCL51/ref=pd_ys_ir_kstore_43 (Morrigan's Bidding) does a much better job of exploring the world building, the goddess's motivation and even presenting real challenges for the main character to face. Both books even have better sex!

This is a good book. It’s well written and entertaining. The plot isn’t very inspired; it’s an isekai (a normal person transported to a different world) to the letter. The magic system is a lot like ‎”Avatar: The Last Airbender‎”, with mages manipulating elements and people with special abilities related to their element (the MC of the book can manipulate earth as his basic element, but also metal; much in the vein of Toph from Avatar).The plot thickens with the introduction of guns in a sword and sorcery setting, a concept witch I find very appealing, but I didn’t quite like the way it was handled. The MC develops the guns way too fast and easy. The impact of guns in such a context should be huge, and the way the MC just goes and give away the schematics of the guns and the formula of gunpowder are plain reckless. I suppose now any blacksmith with the schematics and formula can experiment and create his own guns... that should be interesting to read. Also, the way the others reacts is really implausible.The characters are the basic from any fantasy/harem: the almighty-multiple-orgasm-inducing Gary Sue, the sexy badass mixed race with a chip on her shoulder and the sexy warrior princess. It’s more of the same.

This book brings gunslinging to a magic filled medieval world. The author has made a world of wonder that has limitless possibilities. I loved everything about this book, from the characters to the magic system, and what a magic system it is. The different elements and branches of it are great. The mention of alchemy was a real nice touch, and I hope it gets more attention in the next book. The author also knows how to get people to want more without driving the reader insane with impatience. The setup building to the next book was also very well done. My hat's off to you, Eric Vall. I can't wait for the next book.

I liked this book a lot, but my problem appeared when the main character was making steel. He said that he removed all of the impurities from the iron ore and it became steel. That is not how steel is made. That aside it is a great book.

Decent concept, but a bit out there with the introduction of modern day weapons and transportation.....maybe if there was a slow progression of technology over the course of several books

This book was very engaging from the start to finish and kept me wanting to read more to figure out the end. Magic and guns is a very good mix.

Transported to a world where magic is real but technology hasn't advanced, can sufficiently advanced technology really seem the same as magic? A fun adventure novel that is part Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court and part Magic the Gathering.

What can I say. The author does a good job entertaining us readers in this fantasy harem story. The usual. MC taken to another world to fix its problems. Fun story and beautiful woman follow. Like it and will read The next release asap.

About the Author

Quentin Bell (1910 – 1996) the younger son of Clive and Vanessa Bell, grew up at Charleston. He was a painter, sculptor, potter and art critic, and held chairs in Fine Art and History of Art at the universities of Leeds, Oxford and Sussex. His books include the prize-winning Virginia Woolf: A Biography, Bloomsbury and a memoir, Elders and Betters.Virginia Nicholson is the elder daughter of Quentin and Olivier Bell. Virginia spent her childhood holidays at Charleston, and is now is a trustee of the house. She is also the author of a series of acclaimed social histories, including Among the Bohemians: Experiments in Living 1900 – 1939. She is married to a writer, has three children and lives in Sussex.

I love this book! I want to travel back in time and visit or live in Charleston Farmhouse, count the Bloomsbury Group among my friends, create or decorate everything in sight, linger in the gardens, and talk about fascinating things with the exceptional people who spent time there. This wonderful book is so evocative of time, place and people that it leads one to dream.The artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell (Virginia Woolf’s sister) moved to Charleston in the Sussex Downs in 1916, during WWI, and their life there is the focus of this gorgeous book. There is the sense of an almost childlike exuberance in their original design and decoration of every possible surface in the house, including walls, textiles, furniture, ceramics, rugs, even lamps, and in the gardens the creation of ponds, fountains, pathways, private refuges, mosaics, sculpture, and color everywhere. Photographer Gavin Kingcome has supplied many stunning, intimate photographs, while Clive and Vanessa Bell’s younger son Quentin Bell, and his daughter Virginia Nicholson, who spent so much of their lives there, bring it to life with photos and stories of everyone who lived and visited there. Their memories are of intellectual, interpersonal and artistic pursuits coupled with much laughter and deep sadness, too. Many of the anecdotes reveal unexpected, funny or personal details which add to, or even change, one’s sense of who the individuals of the Bloomsbury Group really wereI highly recommend this book, even to those with no acquaintance with the Bloomsbury Group. It is a joy to experience. I am not artistic, but I told a friend the spirit of free expression I get from it makes me think I could be. I plan to own this book, so I can escape to Charleston and spend time with its residents over and over again.Thanks to NetGalley and White Lion Publishing for a Digital ARC of this book, of which I give an honest review.

As an Anglophile and book lover this is a must, just before hopping on a plain to visit there! Or simply to be impressed by creativity and beauty. One will want to visit one day! This is a classic!

I "thought" I knew a lot about this beyond-unique home and its inhabitants; but this beautiful book has provided the Complete Story.....with endless visuals. (the best photos of Charleston I have ever seen) Two books in one, the main text tells the story of the family and friends who occupied the home with additional emphasis on the evolution of the various rooms, PLUS the extensive italicized photo captions provide further insights about each room and the accoutrements that appear in each photo. There is also a brief mention of how the home was (thankfully) rescued from oblivion, and became a destination for those seeking to see this wonderfully-creative environment for themselves. Welcoming and one-of-a-kind, this home is a perfect reflection of the creatives who lived there (not to mention, exuberant visitors) and the "evidence" is everywhere. No cabinet door, or end table was safe from the paint pots and brushes; and "spontaneous" hardly describes the artistic approach of the resident artists. Again: thankfully!This book succeeds on many levels.....and I recommend it to those who might be rallying their courage to create a home environment that is truly-unique and fully-expressive. This home proudly affirms: "Please all, and you please none". Lovingly embellished, and lavishly emblazoned -- Charleston is an historic residence that continues to inspire. Super book!

This is a lovely, loving homage to a place and those who lived there. The text is interesting and revealing, while the photographs are marvelously evocative. It's one of those rare coffee-table books that is a good read. Fans of the Bloomsbury Group will want this book not so much as a keepsake, but as an important part of their Bloomsbury library collection. Fans of intimate interiors (intimate portraits of intimate interiors) will love this book, too. It's beautiful. Each room is discussed and portrayed, and then, as a grand finale, the lush garden, a series of outdoor "rooms," is featured. I recommend this book to anyone for whom places are alive. My only caveat is that if you are not fond of The Bloomsbury Group (or are among those who are scandalized by the way they lived their lives), there's no reason to buy this book. Its frank contents will just upset you, and the artwork will seem amateurish. Charleston is, as the cover says, "a Bloomsbury House and Garden."

As I am an admirer of the art of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, and also an advocate of unique interior decoration, this lovely book captivated me. Each chapter details a room in the Charleston home, and describes in writing and photographs not only the decoration-- the furniture and the paintings-- but also the persons that inhabited these rooms.Quentin Bell and his daughter give us a first person perspective of the life and times of these remarkable people; the famous Bloomsbury group, as well as other family and friends.Their unconventional living situation, as well as the time in which they lived--the travails of the first and second world wars-- hardship and loss, but also a great commitment to their family and their art--it makes for a compelling story.The detail of the photography was the purpose of my purchase, and it did not let me down. I am very happy to review again and again the unique way in which they imprinted their own artistic perspective upon the furniture, the walls, and the doors of their home! I am so thankful that Charleston was preserved, and that I can visit it as often as I wish through the pages of this unique book!

Although I agree with the criticism some have given this book, I also think that's what makes this memoir so fascinating. Unferth and her boyfriend had no idea what they were getting themselves into!I totally relate to this book and had similar ideas of my own to go join the Revolution. My boyfriend (who later became my husband, then my ex) was Salvadoran so he knew it was no joking matter to go join a guerrilla group or any other group during the civil wars in Central and South America.We even had some friends who were in a punk rock band that went to Nicaragua after the Revolution. The more I heard, the more I wanted to go. I finally did go to El Salvador, but my boyfriend's family made sure I didn't get into any really bad situations.It's interesting that of all the people I met who had been to Nicaragua, not one of them told me the raw truth that Unferth tells here. I had no idea that it would have been so difficult! Yes, I knew there were very young soldiers who were indoctrinated to believe anyone who cared about the people were Communists (this was how it was in El Salvador). I knew that the Sandinistas were mostly young idealists who knew what hunger and violence was like (El Salvador too, that's how both sides were able to recruit so many teens). But I never knew about the day to day difficulties of lack of food, money and jobs, and the abundance of diseases that could KILL you!Unferth bares her soul like few have done, especially as it relates to Central America, idealists and trying to understand another culture.One of my favorite facts that Unferth brings up is that the locals didn't call us American and European idealists "Internationalistas," but instead referred to us (or them, since I didn't go) as "Sandalistas" because of the fact that almost all of them wore some kind of sandals! They may have arrived in Birkenstocks, but eventually had to wear whatever some local shoemaker with no resources could make for them.I must admit that the novel made me very glad that my headstrong Salvadoran boyfriend never gave in to the silly whims of an American girl who, at that time, romanticized the entire idea of helping poor people make a better life for themselves. It truly was NO JOKE. Knowing me, I might not have made it back alive!Sherrie Miranda is the author of "Secrets & Lies in El Salvador: Shelly's Journey"P.S. I should note that the book I read had a different (more appropriate) cover. I don't know if there were many changes made to this edition.

I read this memoir in one day. I remember the Sandinistas and Father Romero and and all the South American Turmoil in the 80s. Deb has artfully woven the political and social upheaval in South America and tells her own personal tale of love, youthful ideals and rebellion. This memoir makes a statement about revolution on the political and personal level and Deb spins a thoughtful, literary testament to a time and place in her life painted against a modern revolution. I highly recommend this memoir. I saw Deb discuss her book and read. She is a diminutive woman in stature but not in talent. Good Writing!

Two things stand out for me about this book: 1) The author was so clueless at a young age and later that it was frightening, and 2) The reader gets no real feeling for what it was like to be in the countries visited during this time period.I found the cluelessness to be ultimately boring and bewildering, and since I didn't learn anything about Nicaragua or anywhere else she went in this slim and frivolous book, I can't recommend it.When I noticed that the author is now teaching at Wesleyan, my first thought was, "My God, this person is now teaching our children?" Hopefully she has learned a lot in the intervening years.

Picture yourself 18 years old, a freshman in college and on your own for the first time in your life. With your first taste of freedom, you fall for the wrong boy and run off to South America because he thinks it is a good idea. Deb Olin Unferth does exactly this. I kept asking myself, why would anyone do this? Well, Deb answers like a typical unsure 18 year old with this memoir. There are some seriously funny moments in this book, but I was a bit frustrates in a couple of stories where they just kind of ending with "I forget" or "can't remember", but then I realized I couldn't remember anything from my time as an 18 year old except that I thought I knew everything.Her revolutionary period didn't involve fighting but lots of short stints of being domestic help since some one needs to help the kids displaced by war. Her recounting of helping in an orphanage is truly inspired. She decides that she will help the kids learn to speak English and farm. All noble ideals except the she doesn't know enough Spanish to teach them English and the kids know more than her about gardening. She buys flower seeds instead of vegetables. This is a very wonderful read for anyone who wished they ran away to rebel, but didn't have the guts. I received this book from the publisher at no expense in exchange for my honest review.

Maurice Bluestein is a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering technology at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. About the Author

Cherríe Moraga is a writer and cultural activist whose work serves to disrupt the dominant narratives of gender, race, sexuality, feminism, indigeneity, and literature in the United States. A co-founder of Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press, Moraga co-edited the highly influential volume This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color in 1981. After twenty years as an Artist-in-Residence in Theater at Stanford University, Moraga was appointed a professor in the Department of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2018, where, with her artistic partner Celia Herrera Rodríguez, she instituted Las Maestras Center for Xicana Indigenous Thought and Art Practice. She is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Theatre Playwriting Fellowship Award and a United States Artist Rockefeller Fellowship for Literature.

I love this book..It has great information on organizing your closet, updating and refining your wardrobe, and making your closet filled with "ready to wear" outfits and separates. It was written by a professional wardrobe consultant and stylist. The great thing is that her tips can be tailored to each individual..be she a professional working women, stay at home mom or combination of the two. Her chapters on closet organization were the best..its easy to see how your closet can get crammed and filled with seldom used things..like your prom dresses, wedding dress, off season coats etc. She is correct when she says that you use only 20% of your wardrobe..and motivates you to get rid of the 80% that is cluttering your closet. It made me want to revamp my whole closet!! Less helpful, were the chapters dealing with styling for your figure type. But that is hard to do in written form for most women. We need concrete examples...its better to just go to the store and try on bunches of stuff and see what works for your body shape. Also included in the book were worksheets and lists to help you write down your style and things you need. I didn't find these very useful but i certainly appreciate the idea. All in all, I found this book to be very helpful..i have already culled out many clothes in my wardrobe that don't work for me and I appreciate having extra space in my closet. Plus, I look forward to shopping trips where i can be more selective of what i choose. Great book!!

Well thought out book relevant to all businesswomen. A must read to get ahead and stay ahead in today’s world. The first impression is a lasting impression-why take a chance to distract from your goals and abilities? Nicely done.

I loved this book - I found it via an Amazon search, because the author, Mary Lou Andre, was going to be speaking at the Rhode Island School of Design, and I wanted to read the book prior to hearing her live.I was not disappointed - I'm a fellow Image Consultant, and I really enjoyed the principles on simplifying your wardrobe. I am an avid shopper, and I could easily have an overcrowded (yet fashionable) closet. Mary Lou's easy manner (both in person and in her book) helped me to weed out some of the dozens of black items I own (do I really need 10 black skirts?), and to take a little risk with adding color and accessories to diversify without crowding.I really enjoyed this book, and will definately recommend it to my private and corporate clients. Not too technical, enough detail to keep you involved, and how-to's that you really can achieve on a realistic budget.Highly recommended - I'm officially a fan!

This book reads very well. The advice is sensible and doable. The author presents an approach to stylishly clothing and organizing oneself.The author's biases about color preference and style of clothing do come through though one cannot question her belief in what she states-she sold her wedding gown to finance her business venture.All in all a useful book.

Mary Lou Andre knows what she is talking about when she gives down-to-earth advice on organizing your closet and building a good basic professional wardrobe. Her recommendation to first go "shopping" in your own closet so that you can focus on what you really need to buy to make everything work is excellent. Following her advice in this book will help you avoid impulse buying and style mistakes.

I found very useable information in this book. Practical and realistic advise.I bought a second copy for a gift and also recommended it to a friend whobought and eagerly read it's good advise. I love the title Ready to Wear"and am trying to have my selected clothes always READY to wear.

I loved it! This book is a an easy read, and organized approach to dressing well. I've been a stay at home Mom for many years. Resently, I accepted a job as a Sales Associate for a major department store. Needless to say, my wardrobe needed major updating. I didn't know where to go for help. An Expert's Guide to Choosing and Using Your Wardrobe, gave me the tools I needed to improve my own wardrobe and the confidence to help my clients with their selections. This book is an excellent reference which I will continue to use.

This book is powerful and helpful. Inside, I found so many things I didn't know, not just about organization, but about dressing well, also. It makes me want to get busy and get things straightened out so I can find outfits at a glance. I especially appreciated the shopping tips that help you focus on what you need to complete any outfits in your closet. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
