Whether you like every woman he wrote about, after reading this book you will at the very least respect their life journey and the way they devoted their life to living out their beliefs. It's caused me to evaluate whether I have the chutzpah to live my life with as much passion in my relationship with God and with the depth of commitment and love for Him the way they did. I bought "Seven Men" for my husband, maybe it will affect him the way this book did me. I'm not the same woman I was when I first picked up this book.

We first read Metaxas' 7 Men and the Secret of Their Greatness. When he published 7 Women, we were thrilled. I lead a Christian Book Club, a mixture of men and women, and we are presently reviewing this book. Seven different members will be reviewing each of the stories of the 7 Women. Metaxas is an outstanding biographer. I highly recommend anything he has written.Jean Haynes

Imagine diving into the lives of some of the most influential and successful women in history. Not the super wealthy or internet famous—instead, women whose stories and influence spans hundreds of years, multiple continents, and a wide variety of topics.Eric Metaxas doesn’t offer a book of dry historical narratives about these women. Instead, his writing style offers their lives as a story that draws the reader in and gives them an insight into who these women were beyond their accomplishments.The book in a couple sentences: 7 great women—Joan of Arc, Susanna Wesley, Hannah More, Saint Maria of Paris, Corrie ten Boom, Rosa Parks Mother Teresa. Each one could have a collection written about her but Metaxas does an amazing job of highlighting not only their accomplishments but the character of each woman. You learn her background and how she became great.What I liked most: Each story had the right mix of history, fact, and perspective to bring the stories to life. The writing and tone allow readers to imagine the stories and engage. Plus, the wide variety of women and the purposeful choice of women who excelled without comparison to men is encouraging.I might change: Although each woman is unique, a concluding chapter that highlights similarities between all of the women would have helped the reader make solid conclusions.A quote to remember: “When I consider the seven women I chose, I see that most of them were great for reasons that derive precisely from their being women, not in spite of it; and what made them great has nothing to do with their being measured against or competing with men. In other words, their accomplishments are not gender-neutral but are rooted in their singularity as women.”

After reading the Bonhoeffer biography and hearing Metaxas speak live, I have come to appreciate & admire his unique blend of humor, intellectual rigor, and faith. I expect to come away challenged by his works and inspired by his ability to engage the audience with powerful and relevant truths. I just finished Seven Women and left feeling disappointed. As other reviewers have noted, I left unsure what truths or message he wanted to convey. I left confused over some of his comments about gender and unsure what he sees as the secret of their greatness (or ours). Perhaps some of that stems from his vantage point as a male author writing on the secret of greatness in women. I'm willing to give him grace in that. I did find myself wishing he had labeled each sketch with a theme, of what he thought that woman portrayed and why it was important or how it might speak to women (and men) today.As for the profiled women, I learned some fascinating portraits of some fascinating women, several that were completely new to me. Metaxas introduces us to their story through brief biographical & historical sketches. He sheds light on their stories and the times in which they lived. In doing so, he implicitly debunks stereotypes of one formula for womanhood and shows women who shaped history and made significant contributions in a variety of contexts. While their stories are interesting and stand alone as mini-bios, I felt less engaged as a reader and left to wonder myself why their story is significant to him and how or why he thinks it might speak to us today. (And I think there are many ways these stories can & should speak to us.) I have come to appreciate his insights as an author and wished I left with more of them in regards to this book and these women. As a single woman, I strongly appreciate, though, the pictures of great women who are single & faithful, those who made contributions beyond motherhood & marriage as well as those who were faithful through hard marriages, heartbreak, and abandonment.It's not my favorite Metaxas book, but I'm still a Metaxas fan. I'll look forward to engaging the next read.(I did not receive the book free and am writing the review just to share my thoughts.)

Great book which consists of mini biographies of 7 remarkable women and how their faith led and sustained them. Makes you want to read more about each one! Some of the writing was not in the same style as the others and in the acknowledgements the author wrote that some was written by his assistant. So I guess this would be the cause. At any rate, if you want a book to introduce you to some great women this is for you!

I enjoyed reading these mini-biographies about women that I may have heard of but knew nothing about. I really like Eric Metaxas writing style; it is very easy to read. I plan on reading more of his work in the future.

LOVING this book, thus far. I wanted some great nonfiction for the new year and Susanna Wesley is one of my spiritual heroes ever since my son died. She is the reason I bought this book, but I'm enjoying getting to know the other women so far, too.

Eric Metaxes is providing for a whole new generation to experience heroes, not Marvel (although those are fun) but true persons of integrity, faith and purpose. Every young man and young woman should read his 7 Men and 7 Women. Well done!

My 6-year-old loves this book. It's a must for car trips and things. Never seems to get old.

Our family is enjoying reading this book. We live in a city and this book has been a great way to answer questions about all the things we see everyday. It also makes a great coffee table book. Just fun to read.

I bought this for my 5 year old for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. Nearly every day he pulls it out and studies a different section of the book. The pages have little doors to discover and some of the pages fold out to see a city block or a skyscraper. Some of the words are a little difficult for my child but he loves learning about how cities work. Great job, lonely planet!

I was very suprised by the size of this book. It is a fairly small book (think workbook size).It includes a study guide in the back of the book, but the answers are not included. (Ask your teacher, they should have them with the teacher's edition of the book).Although small, this book is very indepth. The chapters start out with a quick overview of reproductive anatomy, and how different cultures deal with pregnancy. The book then goes into detail about the fetal growth and stages, changes in the mom and baby throughout these stages, labor and delivery, newborn care, postpartum care, and reproductive issues. The book includes many pictures for those of us that are visual learners! This book is a great reference for any maternity care. It is very in depth and goes above and beyond pregnancy and labor. The book is very easy to understand and I didn't have a hard time getting bored with reading the chapters.I hope I helped a little about what to expect out of the book.If you need this for a nursing class then good luck, you will make it to graduation!!

I will be posting a flyer at the school as soon as winter break is over.I went to ES BOCES LPN and needed this book. T X T 6 3 1 7 4 0 4 7 4 7 and I will sel l you mine for cheaper.

This was my first experience ordering a used book. The entire 21 chapters of study guides in the back of the book were ripped out which is what all of my homework for class is based off of. I guess I learned my lesson

This book has been fundamental in helping me understand difference between the subconscious and conscious brains and how to handle the fight between the two when overcoming bad habits. I feel like I can conquer anything by just having the knowledge of how our brains truly work. Yes we all know that we have a subconscious and a conscious but Bruce does a fantastic job defining the two and provides such clever analogies to how each works. I’m usually too lazy to leave reviews and this is actually the first book review I’ve written. That’s how empowering and inspiring this book was.

This is a good book. It reminds me a lot of Maltz's book "The New PsychoCybernetics ".In in one way this is a better book than Maltz's, Lipton provides updated resources that contribute to the text that are different from what were in his text from ten years earlier.Maltz's book was first published in 1960. The editors of the recent editions have added some updated resources, but the texts also continue to refer to articles from the 1950s from popular magazines. Maltz has been dead for some time and so it isn't his fault . I have thought all along that references to the old articles should be replaced with contemporary resources that confirm the claims of the earlier ones. It is an advantage for Lipton to be able to update his own book.With that said, in some ways I like the PsychoCybernetics books better than this one because they provide exercises for making the changes in programming that Maltz describes. Lipton does a great job of describing the mechanisms of our problems and assures us that physical healing and personal change is possible, but he doesn't go that far into how to change the programming. He does say that simply relying on will power and positive thinking won't usually work. But he doesn't provide well developed alternatives in his book. Instead, he provides a link to resources and to someone else's web page. At that point the book looks like a sales pitch."The Biology of Belief" is a worthwhile book for someone interested in ideas complimentary to the works of authors such as Wayne Dyer or Owen Barfield. It is good to have a reputable scientist to present ideas similar to Maltz's in his own words because it shows that the earlier works can still be considered seriously, even if Lipton is something of a lone voice or minority view in the medical establishment.

You can't do both, and no matter what, your doing one or the other.This book will help you snap into grow mode.I also recommend "You are the Placebo" by Dr. Joe Dispenza. Another great book driving the same point home. Both books compliment each other, but I'd recommend reading this one first.

Quite literally changed my life. My Parkinson's disease symptoms went from miserable to a mild annoyance. Tenth anniversary edition has valuable information that should not be missed.

Lots of Ah ha! moments in this book. Bruce Lipton is so dag on funny! I spend half the time rereading sentences to understand them and the other half laughing at this guys quirky personality which totally shows in his writing! I love it! He did such a great job explaining things, really breaking them down for our understanding. And although I was a science major and have had years of education in human/cell biology this was still difficult to read at times. There is definitely a lot of science in it. But to be fair I'm only on chapter 3. The chapters are long in this 10 anniversary edition due to some extended, updated material attached to the end of each chapter, but I love this because it really closes the gap between what was known 10 years ago as opposed to today, and a lot can be revealed in 10 years. I'd suggest that in the following 10 years Bruce just write a continuation book or an update book rather than adding to the already long chapters of this one. But it's an awesome book and i can't wait to use what I'm learning in my practice as well as on myself.

So far, I have noticed the following: (EU/US) dialling / dialing; Shan't! / Won't!; sherbet lemon / lemon drop; motorbike / motorcycle; and dustbin / trashcan. For many purists of the series who never liked the idea of modifying the original text for an American audience, this is a good thing. Good or bad is naturally for each reader to decide--just know, if you plan to read the books while listening to Jim Dale's audiobooks, you'll notice a few superficial differences.The quality of this new illustrated edition is phenomenal. I've been excited about the release of this book since it was announced, but I never expected the book as a whole to be so well crafted.A couple of things to note:1. Underneath the book jacket, the novel is bound in a sturdy red hardback with gold lettering on the spine.2. The paper is thick with an eggshell glossy finish.3. All chapter intros are illustrated.4. Some images take up full pages or multiple pages. Most illustrations share the page with text.5. Every inch of the book is illustrated or decorated in some fashion. There are NO white pages in the book. Even the pages without large illustrations have the paper printed and marked with ink blots or paper "stains".I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to read the series (again, or for the first time), especially if you plan to read this with someone younger. If this book is a demonstration of what is to come with the illustrated editions for the rest of the series, we're all in for six more impeccable treats.

I LOVE THE STORY. Illustrations are great. PROBLEM is that the book came missing pages 153-168 because 137-152 were printed twice. It took me a week to realize this. You will want to check your books. I'm sure Amazon will take care of me but thank goodness I wasn't gifting this.

These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. I can't wait for them to release the others.

I think this is my third reading of the Harry Potter series. The first time is a precious memory to me. Our four children would all climb into our king size bed before bedtime and we would read one or two chapters each evening. We homeschooled so, as each child's reading progressed, they read a part too. Their mom died. They're in late 20s now. Five grandkids. Those will be ready to read to before we know it. But life is not always neatly packaged. I married a widow and moved us all. Today they are off to their own lives. My four and I are scattered across four states and even overseas. So, I'm reading to myself now. I can't make a stronger recommendation than to say that I immediately purchased "The Order Of The Phoenix" after finishing this one. I also have the set in hardbound on the bookshelf beside me. But Kindle is just too convenient. *smile*

My husband tried to surprise me with this order, but we share the amazon account ;)I WAS surprised though, because I didn’t realize it would be textbook size with all these amazing scenes drawn out. They’re AH-MAY-ZING drawings!! If you love Harry Potter, you will love these books. For some reason, hubs couldn’t find the first and second of the series (I did ;p) so he bought the third first, but we know the stories by heart so it doesn’t matter to me. I hope they put out all of them! It almost feels like how I felt waiting for the actual series to come out.

I got this book as a gift for my 5 month old son for his first Deepavali. Even though, he can't read, I made an activity for all my nephews and nieces for the party. The book is a really short read. It covers basics such as what it stands for, why we celebrate it and how we celebrate it. I wish it would talk a little more about some things related to Deepavali like Rangoli drawings, and how different parts of India celebrate Deepavali and MOST IMPORTANTLY- its DEEPAVALI and not DIWALI!

I didn’t like that they talk about demons etc. it was too religious and complicated for a young group of three year olds.

I purchased this book because our daughter married a young man from India whose family celebrates Diwali. This festival is as important to his family as Christmas is to ours. I wanted a simple, basic understanding of the celebration and so purchased this book. My son-in-law read it and pointed out some errors in fact in the Southern India tradition explained in the book.

Being a 1st Generation American Desi, I treasure the moments when I can enrich my daughter's life with both of her cultures. This book is great introduction to those that are curious and to those that would liked to introduce India's and Hindu's most treasured celebration.

This was a great book to read about Diwali during our Holidays Around the World unit in first grade. I'm so glad I bought it to read to my class.

This book gave me a clear and simple way to explain Diwali to my preschool age children. I am planning on purchasing this for all of my nieces and nephews. Really thrilled with this purchase.

This book is a great intro to Diwali for a child with Indian heritage living abroad. My daughter is half Indian and really is not exposed to the culture on a regular basis. She loves reading this book, though, to learn more about how her grandparents and aunts and uncles celebrate Diwali! :) It was a great addition to her library! Very thorough and informative book without being boring or providing too much detail for young children!

We've been reading to our now 7 month-old since she was a week old, and this book was way too short, and lacking any sort of depth at all. As a practicing Hindu, it was also a completely glossed over version of Diwali, with no coverage of the actual religious meaning of it! Very disappointed. A wonderful alternative is "Rama and the Demon King" - wonderfully illustrated, and captures the depth of the religious and moral parts of the story, while not being too long for a young one to handle.

If I could leave zero stars I would. This book had been pieced back together from multiple books. Wouldn't be that big a deal except it had repeats of the same sections and was completely missing some others. Very disappointed and shame on the seller. This is a medical professional textbook, not throw away cheap Chinese electronics.

This book was required for a course in my MSN program, and it has been a fantastic resource! Great coverage of a range of topics relating to policy and political processes in legislation, government, communities, organizations, research, nursing, and healthcare in general. The authors consistently communicate in a relatable, relevant way--and provide current examples to connect concepts to context. I'm glad I purchased instead of renting, and I would highly recommend for anyone interested in getting involved with nursing leadership or political advocacy!

This book is the assigned text for my Current Nursing Issues and Trends class in a BSN program. It covers material such as unionization, affordable health insurance, and legislation issues that affect nurses. I imagine much of the material would become dated very quickly, so I'm glad to see this one was update in 2014. I plan to keep this book when my class is finished because there is so much to learn but will need to check if any information becomes outdated.

Like the previous (other) reviewer, I am annoyed that this ebook has so little portability. I bought the Kindle text so I could read it on the go, using my Kindle, or MacAir. Turns out, this book doesn't even load on to my Kindle or my lap top. It ONLY loads onto my desktop, making the ebook not more but LESS portable than the hard copy would have been. The buyer alert needs to more prominent.Update: if you highlight or take notes liberally, don't expect to revisit your highlighted material except by laboriously clicking back (or ahead), page-by-page. This is true on the lap top (which finally loads the text) and the desk top for me. I've read through chapter 14, highlighting along the way. I've opened the sidebar along the left side and chosen "All My Notes and Marks" The function does NOT track highlights as I make them though. It shows the notes and marks beginning from pg. 1, regardless of where you actually are in the text. You have to scroll down to find newer ones. Problem is, the sidebar only seems capable of loading a limited number of notes. It is impossible (as far as I can tell) to re-access highlights on this bar after reaching (for me) about pg. 40. Try to scroll much farther that and everything gets wonky and then goes blank. The side menu never populates with the rest of the notes/highlights. I don't know if it the side bar is just loading very, very slowly or what. Regardless, I cannot use this text to study from. I don't have 10 minutes to wait for the stupid thing to find my highlights on pg 129 or 204 or whatever, when I could just flip to them in a second with a paper text. Very irritating. I will not buy another large electronic textbook.

not too bad - it is pretty heavy reading so plan ahead & read it in short spurts to preserve your sanity. The content is very interesting and applicable to many aspects of nursing.

Using this book for my Masters in Nursing Course. (Assigned textbook) I know very little about Healthcare Policy and Politics and this book has served as a handy reference and learning tool.

I love when authors make you think of the possibility of alternative events in history. I love the premise of the book. This guy is going to be one of the up and coming authors. Characters were well-developed and the book was just the right length. I can't wait to read his future works. I hate reading books that are replete with language errors. Fortunately, I made the right choice in buying this book. Not only was the story fascinating, but aside from a few mistakes, it was smooth sailing.

A unique and riveting story. I t has many fascinating twists and interesting plots. As a history and science buff it kept me intrigued.

Fast read. Premise entertaining and a neat twist on what may have happened to Atlantis (if it ever existed). Characters were good and of course the relationship between Anders and Binh the most entertaining. Some parts were silly as you are suppose to accept that the mercenaries wouldn't be able to survive the jungle without modern weapons. That is easy to forgive and didn't detract from the story. All in all a good book. Enjoyed it.

Great story. Interesting characters. I really enjoyed the plot twists. I am looking forward to read his next book which I hope is a continuation of this book.

A real surprise of a read and enjoyable all the way to the end. Not too heavy or too outrageous considering we're talking about time travel and Atlantis. The story kept steady pace with a surprising twist of an ending. This is a stand alone book however it leaves room at the end to produce a sequel. I'm looking forward to the next story so I pushed the "follow" button.

The Genesis Conspiracy can perhaps be best described as a sci-fi time travel adventure thriller. If that sounds like a mouthful, it's because this book covers many bases. It starts out with the chace discovery of a 12,000 year old frozen body in the mountains. But, there's a reason the guy wasn't buried in a cemetery: he carries a highly contagious deadly pathogen which is unwittingly transferred to others. The human race has just 96 hours to find a cure, or be wiped out.A portal is found that can take travelers back to the year 10,000 BC. An intrepid team of scientists makes the leap, suspecting that the cure can be found there. But a group of bad guys is already there, and the cure hangs in the balance. Thus ensues an exciting, well-paced romp through ancient civilizations, including the lost city of Atlantis. There's danger at every turn, along with the resolutions of some of history's greatest mysteries. You won't want to stop reading until the end. Recommended for fans of Indiana Jones, Dan Brown, and A.G. Riddle, to name a few.

I enjoy alternate stories on familiar topics. This book certainly delivered! Well written and easy to follow. The characters were likable and believable. Please keep up the good work!

Rather far fetched but a good distraction. Quick read. I would read another if it comes out. Liked the what ifs.
